PROTECT YOURSELF FROM ONLINE PREDATORS WITH FSU PANAMA CITY SEMINAR

Tony Simmons

Learn to protect yourself from online predators at a free workshop, “Click with Caution,” hosted by Florida State University Panama City. The event, featuring a presentation from Panama City Beach Police Chief J.R. Talamentez, will be from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, in the Holley Academic Center, 4750 Collegiate Drive.

“The online world changes faster than most people realize, and online predators are constantly adapting their methods,” said Laurie Lawrence, PhD, an FSU PC professor of Professional Communication. “This is why this public event is more important than ever. The event is designed to help bring awareness to individuals and families so they can recognize and respond to these evolving digital threats.”

Lawrence, who is also a member of the 14th Circuit Human Trafficking Task Force, noted that the Bay County Tax Collector’s office posts public announcements advising residents to “beware text scams," and Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford regularly issues warnings to the public on various scams that have been discovered.

Talamantez will reveal the warning signs of predatory behavior online, how to report suspicious activity and what you can do to protect yourself and loved ones from online predators.

This event is a joint effort of FSU Panama City, the Department of Health and the Panama City Beach Police Department. Admission is free. Refreshments will be provided.
